What is the true cost of the virus in the global south? The entire world has been impacted by the pandemic, but — when it comes to richer and poorer nations — a global event can also be a profoundly local one. Lives in the developing world have been impacted in a very different way to people in Europe or the US, creating a second shadow pandemic. Philosopher and cultural theorist, Kwame Anthony Appiah, explains how the disparities between the global north and south are likely to be a feature of crises to come, and argues for a richer sense of our mutual obligations in a post-pandemic era.
