How the free press worldwide is under threat

Attacks on journalists around the world are ramping up, posing a great threat to freedom of speech. From Mexico to Malta, attacks on journalists and publishers have proved deadly to individuals and chilling to broader freedoms. Reporters in the US have also been targetted during the riots and COVID-19 is being used as an excuse to silence more voices. The director of editorial legal services for the Guardian, Gill Phillips, investigates.
