Over-optimism about racial justice is widespread and harmful

Change is not always positive, linear or automatic. Society does not constantly move forward towards more significant racial equity over time. Inertia and backlash are possible, too. Achieving racial justice takes work, but narratives of ever-unfolding progress can seem like the job is already done. Michael Kraus, an associate professor of organisational behaviour at Yale, argues that this needs to change.
