Defining people in this way is profoundly ineffective. It’s no secret that people born between 1981 and 1996, known as the millennial generation, have gotten some fairly negative labels attached to them in recent years. But what good does labelling everyone born across a 15-year period do? Instead, industrial and organisational psychologist Cort W. Rudolph suggests adopting a lifespan approach when considering the differences between age groups. As such, rather than relying on society-sanctioned ageism, we appreciate that several factors affect a person’s development across their lifetime.
